The VP for the Minority is the person who receives the second highest number of electoral votes for President.
** No! **
The word "minority" and "majority" in this initiative are related to voting blocks. The usage here is similar to the "minority" whip, and "majority" whip in Congress.
In 2020, the VP for the Minority would have been Donald Trump.
In 2024, the VP for the Minority would have been Kamala Harris.
The offices of President and Vice President (ordinary/majority) would NOT be different in 2020 and 2024 from what they were.
This is a key "feature" and not a "bug" of the initiative/proposed amendment.
Works just fine for changes to the "party" system.
The concept here is the two largest voting blocks. That does not inhibit new political parties, changes in the names of existing political parties or the overall number of political parties.
This flexibility and the agnostic nature of the proposed amendment are key strengths of the concept.
The founder and author does not see where this affects the elements that sustain, reinforce or inhibit a "two-party system" at all. However, open discussion is encouraged. How, in detail, does the initiative here "entrench" the two-party system any more that any random law or constitutional amendment?
The amendment purposefully only recognizes the two largest voting blocks, not parties. The amendment could be expanded to Majority, 1st Minority, 2nd Minority, etc. Beyond a mental exercise, such appears to be overkill.
Only those specifically indicated by Congress as being subject to the veto of the VP for the Minority.
The proposed amendment would either need to be accompanied by a comprehensive new law by Congress, or, the wording of the amendment be such that many offices, such as the list to follow, would be spelled out in the amendment until changed by Congress.
Types of offices for which the amendment is targeted:
Multi-member independent boards
The opposite Department of Justice prosecutors
Inspector Generals
FBI Director
Special Prosecutors
Definitely!
The concept here was born in March of 2026. Many of the specifics can and should be adjusted as the concept becomes more formalized.
The Executive Branch, Article 2.
This assignment is largely symbolic since the Vice President for the Minority has only very specific and limited powers.
The control of the proposed Minority DOJ and limited veto power over Executive firings and dismissals place the powers of this office squarely in the Executive Branch.
In addition, the design of the office is intended to function very much with existing checks and balances between the other two branchs.
Wait, what? Don't leading voices in MAGA loudly proclaim that the DOJ under Biden was "weaponized" against Trump and his supporters? Wouldn't a person interested in fairness for all Americans be pleased to have someone like Donald Trump leading a team of prosecutors investigating Biden, Comey, Harris, Letitia James, etc, etc...while Biden was in office? Why, Trump could have launched an intense investigation of "election fraud" in 2020...before...the statue of limitations ran out!!
What's not to love for MAGA?
Of course, they might be a little worried that...nothing...would come of such investigations...
More seriously, I would like to "sweeten the pot" further to attact sufficient MAGA supporters, or recently disillusioned MAGA supporters, or Republicans to this cause. Open to ideas.
Bits and pieces are. The founder has been enjoying experimenting with AI very lightly. A few background "style" images (like George Washington) were created using AI. The logo was created in Paint by the author. Various casual research was done by questioning AI. Google Gemini mainly.
